If your institution is accredited, LSU will accept your academic coursework. Transfer coursework comes over in two ways:
- Direct Transfer: If we have an exact equivalent of the course you are transferring, then we classify it as an exact equivalent to our course.
Example: (Source Institution Course) ENGL 1301 = (LSU Equivalent) ENGL 1001
Reason: Identical LSU course
- Transfer Elective: If we do not have an exact equivalent then we load the coursework by level and title.
Some Senior Colleges have specific rules for transfer grades and will only accept a "C" or better for required courses or even courses in the major. We recommend that you check with your major department to make sure that your grades will transfer and will count towards your major.
Example: (Source Institution Course) ENGL 1301 = (LSU Equivalent) ENGL 1*** Prefix (ENGL), class level (1), transfer designation (***)
Reason: no direct equivalent LSU course, or insufficient credit hours.
Your Senior College will determine if a course can count as an elective for your major. If exact course equivalence is required then an Evaluation of Transfer Credit Form (Out of state credit) or Substitution of Transfer Credit Form (In State credit) needs to be filled out and brought to the specific department which will need a course description to review the credit further.

Additionally, for all in-state 2 and 4 year public institutions, LSU participates in the Articulation Matrix which is a crosswalk of how freshman and sophomore level courses transfer amongst the state. The Articulation Matrix can be found on the Board of Regents website at http://regents.louisiana.gov/index.cfm?md=pagebuilder&tmp=home&pid=479.
Non-Transferable Course
Remedial courses do not transfer to LSU, transfer designation will appear as 0***.
Example: MATH0099 (Source Institution Course) = (LSU Equivalent) MATH 0***
Reason: Course is determined remedial
Quarter Semester Conversion
Quarter Hour credit is divided by 1.5 or multiplied by .67 to = Semester hours (5 QH = 3.3 SH)
