How to Get Involved

Attend a College Fair

Attending a college fair is an easy, fun way to represent LSU. The majority of fairs typically take place during the months of August through November, but can be scattered throughout the year. Most college fairs involve representatives manning a table or booth alongside other colleges, universities, or organizations. Students have an allotted amount of time to browse the exhibitors to ask questions and collect information. They are one of the most effective means to inform students about LSU who might not have considered attending.

There are many types of college fairs. Some are open to any participants and are relatively easy to sign up for. Others require fees that must be paid in advance. Typical fees range from $25 for local fairs through $500 for major national college fairs. Most college fair organizers like for university representatives to sign up in advance for an event. In extreme cases, some fairs will only allow participants who have registered in advance.

Time commitment:         2-4 hours.

Communicate with Prospective Students

The millennial generation craves personal attention. Communicating with prospective students helps us form a personal bond between LSU and the student. Our office is continually sending communication to students through mail, phone calls, email, and social media. Alumni volunteers are encouraged to communicate with newly admitted students and congratulate them on their acceptance to LSU.

To start communicating with students email alumnirecruiting@lsu.edu

Participate in Recruitment Events

“LSU on the Geaux” is an outreach recruiting event in the Fall where our office brings representatives from campus to primary recruiting markets around the country. These events are typically held in local high schools who have opened there doors to host us. We love having alumni volunteers come and share their LSU experience with potential students. In the past these have been held in places such as:

Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Orlando, Memphis, Pensacola, Jackson, and throughout Louisiana.

Admitted student receptions are events hosted by our office around the country with a focus on yielding admitted students to commit to attending LSU. They tend to be smaller events but are crucial in the recruiting process.

Host a student Send-Off Reception

Alumni chapters and volunteers are encouraged host a Send-Off Reception for incoming and current students to see them off for the upcoming year. Students are able to meet other future tigers from their hometown and start building friendships before even stepping foot on campus. This is also a great opportunity to start promoting your chapter to the next generation of LSU Alumni.
