School of Education Alumnus, T. Elon Dancy II, Selected as Helen S. Faison Endowed Chair & Director of Center for Urban Education at the University of Pittsburgh

Baton Rouge, LA - Dr. T Elon Dancy, a School of Education Alumnus, has been selected as Helen S. Faison Endowed Chair and Director of the Center for Urban Education in the School of Education at the University of Pittsburgh. He comes to this appointment from his role as Professor and Associate Dean for Community Engagement and Academic Inclusion in the College of Education at the University of Oklahoma. Prior to the associate deanship, Dr. Dancy served as Fellow in the OU Office of the Senior Vice-President and Provost. He also held affiliate faculty appointments in African and African American Studies, Women’s and Gender Studies, and the Center for Social Justice.

Dr. Dancy graduated from LSU, in 2008 with a PhD in Educational Leadership & Research: Higher Education Administration. The Higher Education program prepares scholar-practitioners for leadership in colleges and universities as administrators and scholars. Through an examination of higher education theory and practice, the program seeks to help students understand the diverse nature of higher education institutions and their participants.

During his time at LSU Drs. Roland Mitchell and Becky Ropers-Huilman served as his major professors and following his graduation from the college, Dr. Dancy was honored as a 2014 College of Human Sciences & Education Alumni of Distinction.
