Student Success Programs

CHSE's Office of Student Services provides multiple programs to keep students informed about their degree program progress, important university and college policies, becoming a better student, and preparation for postgraduate study/employment. The following programs are offered for CHSE students:

 

Geaux

Geauxing for Gold

Geauxing for Gold is a workshop designed to provide CHSE students with strategies to increase their academic achievement, study skills, and organizational skills. Throughout the workshop, tips and best practices will be shared that are applicable to all levels of CHSE students. The workshop is designed to focus on the CHSE student and provide major specific information to assist students in reaching their goal of graduation with a degree from the CHSE at LSU.

 


 

Admission & Advising Meetings

Once admitted into CHSE, students are required to attend a major specific CHSE Admission & Advising meeting, held in the fall and spring semesters. These meetings provide students with an opportunity to hear from Office of Student Services staff, program faculty, and current students regarding important information on their degree program. Presentations include, but are not limited to:

  • Career opportunities with the degree program
  • Review of individual college records and recommended paths
  • Once per year course offerings and important course prerequisite sequences
  • Internship/student teaching opportunities and requirements
  • Preparation for graduate/professional school or employment search

Participants will be notified of their required participation and session dates via email.

 

 


xSELL

CHSE x-SELL

This program assists students on university scholastic probation or warning and/or students on CHSE scholastic probation by providing Support, an opportunity to Explore barriers that may have hindered past academic success, Links to campus resources, and means to Learn effective strategies to help to achieve academic, personal, and career goals.

Students in the x-SELL program on CHSE probation are required to attend an x-SELL session designed to help them become more knowledgeable about college and university policies. In addition, resources and assessments are provided to assist students in working toward their goal of graduation with a degree from CHSE. In addition, students placed on university scholastic warning or probation meet biweekly with an Office of Student Services counselor to discuss their academic progress in the semester. Students who are not comfortable attending a group session are welcome to schedule an individual appointment with a CHSE counselor to discuss the information presented in the session.

Graduation Check Out

CHSE students are required to attend major specific Graduation Checkout meetings the semester prior to their intended date of graduation. Students who have a declared graduation date will be contacted via email regarding the meeting. During the meeting students will submit the required university application for degree along with other required CHSE documentation. At the meeting, students will receive a degree audit indicating their remaining graduation requirements. Important information regarding graduation eligibility, graduating semester timeline,  and the commencement ceremony will be discussed. Students may be required to meet individually with the Assistant Dean to review their graduation eligibility as well.
