CHANCELLORThe Louisiana State University Chancellor Search Committee invites applications for the position of Chancellor of Louisiana State University and Agricultural & Mechanical College (LSU) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Reporting to the President of the LSU System and working with the Board of Supervisors, the Chancellor is the chief executive officer of LSU. As such, the chancellor will develop excellent relationships with faculty, staff, students, and alumni and with arts and cultural communities as well as with university stakeholders, including government, business, and industry leaders at all levels of education. The next chancellor is expected to uphold LSU’s historic traditions of excellence and to lead the institution to even greater heights. The next Chancellor should be a person of strategic vision, impeccable integrity, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and relate well to the University’s myriad and diverse constituents. Exemplary management skills and a passion for educating students and improving their lives are professional qualities sought by the Search Committee. LSU is the Louisiana’s flagship institution. Founded in 1860, LSU is a comprehensive, Doctoral/Research-Extensive university, offering 198 undergraduate and graduate/professional degree programs through nine senior colleges and three schools. It is also one of only 21 United States universities designated as land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant institutions. The chancellor will provide vision, energy and leadership as LSU aggressively pursues further advancement within the ranks of America’s pre-eminent public research universities as detailed in LSU’s National Flagship Agenda. Much progress has been made in pursuing those goals. Student admission standards, retention rates, and graduation rates have steadily increased over the last decade. Faculty and staff have received regular, merit-based pay raises and LSU’s external funding has gone up significantly. The LSU main campus community includes 34, 000 faculty, staff, and students from throughout the United States and 120 foreign countries with a total budget for 2007-2008 of $777 million and total research grants and contracts of $164 million.
