April 30, 2008, was dubbed LSU Day at the Louisiana State Capitol. LSU officials, student scholars, athletes, and coaches were on hand throughout the afternoon to meet with state legislators and officials. The BCS National Championship Trophy was on display during the activities.

Oscar and three-time Emmy Award-winner and LSU alumnus Bill Conti returned to campus as the special guest conductor for the LSU Wind Ensemble Concert on April 22, 2008. An innovative joint education project between the LSU College of Education and ADVANCE BATON ROUGE, or ABR, will be the beneficiary of a $500,000 gift provided by BP America. In a news conference held at LSU on April 8, Marathon Oil Corporation announced a $2.5 million gift commitment to LSU, supporting programs in the LSU College of Basic Sciences and the College of Engineering.
This philanthropic gift to LSU represents a continuation of a valued relationship between Louisiana’s flagship university and one of the world’s leading energy companies. The School of Social Work announced on March 1, 2008, Margaret Champagne Womack's gift commitment of $250,000 to increase the Margaret Champagne Womack Professorship in Addictive Disorders. Womack’s gift will be matched by the Louisiana Board of Regents, raising the total benefit to the LSU School of Social Work to $410,000. Members of the Forever LSU Campaign Cabinet and patrons of the School of Music and Dramatic Arts, were hosted at a pre-concert reception on February 15, 2008, at the home of The Honorable W. Henson and Carolyn Moore. Music was provided by Lawrence Hebert. The reception guests were then treated to an outstanding performance of M&DA students and faculty in the Concert Spectacular at the LSU Student Union.
