During a recent trip to Baton Rouge, James C. "Jim" Flores (center) was presented the Purple & Gold Award by LSU Alumni Association President Charlie Roberts (right). Flores, a 1981 graduate of the E.J. Ourso College of Business, is chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer of Houston-based Plains Exploration and Production Company. Flores, and his wife Cherie, were recognized on Feb. 5 at the annual LSU Alumni Association Accolades Banquet, which they unable to attend due to prior obligations. Roberts, along with LSU Chancellor Michael Martin (left), met Flores at the Baton Rouge airport to present the distinguished donor with the honor. Flores, who was the 2007 LSU Alumnus of the Year, made the lead gift in founding the Flores M.B.A. program in the E.J. Ourso College of Business.

Chancellor Martin enjoys “China Day”, which is a celebration of the Chinese New Year and a promotion of Chinese culture.

Chancellor and Mrs. Martin attend the LSUAA Accolades Banquet, honoring top donors and outstanding alumni chapter volunteers. LSU military veterans were recognized and outstanding former cadets were inducted into the Hall of Honor. The event was held during a homecoming pregame ceremony. Chancellor Martin and the LSU Center for French and Francophone Studies (CFFS) awarded Congolese writer and Ambassador Henri Lopes with Le Prix Louisiane, an award presented annually by the CFFS to an outstanding figure in the French-speaking world. Ambassador Lopes gave a brief lecture during a ceremony held Friday, April 24. Lopes was joined by French Ambassador François Rivasseau and other French delegates, state officials, and University administrators. Chancellor Martin hosted a dedication ceremony on Friday, May 8, in the LSU Student Union to honor the People of Qatar, who gave a generous $100 million gift to the victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. LSU received $3.3 million to aid affected students. Chancellor Martin unveiled a plaque during the ceremony that will permanently remain in the LSU Student Union. Pictured with Chancellor Martin include Mr. Hamad Al-Dorsi, a senior diplomat of Qatar, Mary Parker, Executive Director of Undergraduate Admissions and Student Aid, Provost Astrid Merget, Major General Bill Bowden, President of the LSU Foundation, Stuart Watkins, LSU Student Government President, and several LSU students that were affected by Hurricane Katrina.


Chancellor Martin mingling with students at the Chancellor’s Pancake Breakfast, held Tuesday, April 28 from 10pm-12am. The event takes place at the end of every semester prior to finals and is free to students.

Chancellor Martin served as the keynote speaker for the 24th Annual LSU Black Scholars Program held on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at the LSU Maddox Fieldhouse.

The program is organized annually by the Black Faculty & Staff Caucus at LSU to recognize high achieving African-American students.  The Chancellor is pictured here with BF&SC leaders and student honorees who received special awards.

Chancellor Mike Martin enjoyed the company of students at the annual Chancellor's Pancake Breakfast. The event, held Dec. 2 from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m., was free to everyone with a valid Tiger Card (LSU ID).

Student Government President Colorado Robertson joined Chancellor Mike Martin in the chancellor's office Aug. 5, 2008, to discuss SG initiatives and activities for the upcoming school year.


On his first day as chancellor Aug. 4, 2008, Mike Martin spoke to a group of incoming freshman taking part in STRIPES-- Student Tigers Rallying, Interacting and Promoting Education and Service.
