Lekeitha received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Arkansas.  Her MS thesis examined the performance of third and fourth grade African American English speakers on the PPVT-III.  Her research interests include child language acquisition in linguistically diverse populations, the effects of poverty on language acquisition, and parent training and prevention models in speech-language pathology.  As a doctoral student, Lekeitha is funded by a departmental assistantship.  She is currently working on two projects. The first examines the beliefs of families and pediatricians about the referral process in communication sciences and disorders, and the second explores the behaviors of low-income children during mother-child play and storybook reading.
