
Jessica is a native of Huger South Carolina and a fluent speaker of Gullah-Geechee. She completed her Bachelors’ degree at Winthrop University in Communication Sciences and Disorders and completed her Master’s degree at South Carolina State University in Speech Pathology and Audiology. Her MA research examined prospective teachers’ attitudes towards different English dialects. Her research interests include nonmainstream English varieties such as Gullah-Geechee and African American English and regional dialect differences as well as language acquisition in culturally and linguistically diverse populations and non-biased language assessment. Jessica works in the LDD lab and is funded by a NIH research assistantship.
