Organization Spotlight: Mortar Board

What is the purpose of your organization? Mortar Board is a national senior honor society focused on recognizing scholarship, fostering leadership development, and encouraging participation in community service. 

How do students get involved in your organization?  Students are always welcome to participate in various service events Mortar Board holds. Students can apply to be part of Mortar Board in the Spring semester of their Junior or Senior year at LSU. Students interested must exhibit excellence in scholarship, leadership and service.

What annual events are put on by your organization?  Mortar Board selects and recognizes ten sophomores who exemplified outstanding achievements in scholarship, leadership and service during their freshman year at LSU. The Mortar Board Top Ten Freshmen for 2010-2011 were recognized at a reception in November with family, friends, and the current members of Mortar Board. The recipients of the award include:  Kelsey Catherine Bradbury, Jennifer Ann Harrison,    
Meredith Eileen Keating, Wen Xian Koay, Nathan Anthony Macaluso, Thomas Gerald Prince, Johlee Elizabeth Schinetsky, Tuan Ngoe Tran, Marie-Therese Yokum, and Yue Zhao.

What honors, awards, and/or accomplishments have your organization recently achieved?
Mortar Board has consistently received the Silver Torch award from Mortar Board National Headquarters, which states that our chapter has met various leadership standards to be considered an active chapter.
