What do you do at LSU? As Assistant Dean for Engineering Diversity Programs, I lead a team of professionals that work on developing and implementing programs in the College of Engineering that focus on recruiting and retention of underrepresented students and faculty and creating a culture of diversity within the College.
What groups or organizations do you advise at LSU? National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE)
How long have you been advising this organization? 6 months
How would students get involved in your organization? Meeting location and times are included on our Engineering Diversity webpage at http://www.eng.lsu.edu/diversity. For general information about the student organizations: http://www.eng.lsu.edu/diversity/college/orgs
Does your organization have a website? http://www.eng.lsu.edu/diversity/college/orgs
Do you have any advice for students interested in getting involved on campus? There is so much going on around campus and easy to get involved in too much and your grades suffer as a result. I would suggest that students pick 1 or 2 organizations that focus on an issue or group that they are passionate about so that they can really gain the benefit of serving the organization and also developing the leadership skills and other skills that can be used after they graduate.
