This 90,000 square-foot, four-story building that includes a large central
atrium with hanging plants and daylight illumination from a central skylight
was constructed in 1983 to centralize the programs of the School of Architecture,
School of Landscape Architecture, and School of Art. The $7.1 million structure
contains administrative and faculty offices, seminar rooms, teaching studios,
a library-resource center, excellent computing facilities, and an auditorium.
Also housed in the Design building is the Computer Aided Design, Geographic
Information Systems Research Laboratory (CADGIS) and the Department of Interior
Design. This multidisciplanary laboratory, operated jointly by the College
of Design and the Department of Geography and Anthropology, provides specialized
support to academic and research units at LSU, to state and federal agencies,
and to private organizations. |
