Research Specialist 1 or 2 - Assistant Facility Manager

The J. Bennett Johnston, Sr., Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices (CAMD) at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, invites applications for the position of a Research Specialist 1 or 2.

Responsibilities:
The Research Specialist 1 or 2 assists the Facility Manager in executing building maintenance policies for buildings, grounds, clean rooms (as designated), air/gas/water systems, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), electric feeders, alarm systems, control systems, radiation interlock system (RIS) management, and mechanical installations; handles mechanical maintenance, including electrical systems to 480 VAC, air handlers, inverted air compressors and water systems; trains and supervises student workers; maintains maintenance database; handles AutoCAD work as necessary for facility management particularly in the area of radiation and vacuum interlock systems; assists in matters related to cryogenic fluids and systems; assists radiation safety officer (RSO) in the Linac, Ring and Beamline interlock tests every quarter; performs weekly injection and stored beam radiation surveys; maintains radiation survey instruments and gets them calibrated at the campus Radiation Safety Office (RSO); issues radiation badges in absence of the Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices (CAMD) RSO; serves as second backup to RSO.

Required Qualifications:
RS1: Four years of professional level experience OR Bachelor's degree; an additional two years of administrative officer/professional level experience in electro-mechanical devices including power distribution systems.

RS2: Four years administrative officer/professional level experience in electro-mechanical devices including power distribution systems will substitute for the requirements listed above for the RS1. Six years of experience for the RS2.

Preferred Qualifications:
Six months of experience in the following areas: welding, PVC piping and conduit installation, interpreting electrical drawings, climate control systems and computer controls.

Special Requirements:
Ability and willingness to be on-call in case of problems with the facility; must be able to lift 50 lbs.; ability to climb ladders and operate riding lawn mower along with other tools.  
Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities, this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.
