Important Budget Cut Information

LSU has already suffered:  Since January 2009, LSU’s state appropriations have been cut by more than $92 million, resulting in the elimination of programs and services and the loss of about 10 percent of LSU's faculty.

LSU has a covenant with its students:  A near-record number of incoming freshmen have enrolled at LSU for Fall 2010.  These students signed on because LSU told them they’d get a quality education.

LSU is pulling more of its own weight than ever before:  Right now, for the first time ever, less than 39 percent of LSU’s operating budget is coming from the state.  Two years ago it was at 58 percent.

LSU impacts the economy:  Studies show that LSU’s impact on the Baton Rouge area is $1.2 billion annually.  LSU students alone are estimated to inject $600 million into the local economy each year.

LSU produces leaders:  More than 1,700 LSU graduates hold the title President, CEO, Owner or Founder -- nearly 1,000 of which live in Louisiana.

LSU produces high achieving students:  Within the past 10 years, LSU has produced Rhodes, Truman, Marshall, Fulbright, Udall and Goldwater Scholars; USA Today Academic All-Americans; and Presidential Management Fellows.  In 2008, LSU was the only university in the nation to produce the combination of a Truman Scholar, four Goldwater Scholars and a USA Today All-USA College Academic First Team member.
