The Baton Rouge Amateur Radio Club offers classes several times a year to help people prepare for the amateur radio license exam. The class meets once a week for six weeks.  At the end of the class, participants are offered the opportunity to take the license test. Classes are free and open to anyone who wants to become an amateur radio operator.  All that is required is that you purchase one book "Now You're Talking", which the club sells at a discounted price. Classes are offered when we have a sufficient number of candidates.  If you are currently licensed and wish to upgrade, we also offer advanced classes.

If you are interested in participating in one of our classes, please fill out our on-line application applications.

Glasgow Middle School

In July 2005, the Baton Rouge Amateur Radio Club donated and installed a VHF and HF station at Glasgow Middle School. With the assistance of Science Teacher Charamie, W5FRM, several students passed their exam and received their amateur radio license. Charamie has since been transferred but Eric Whiteside KE5PQQ has taken over the class of five students. They are in the process of forming a club and have several events planned for the year. They are looking to raise funds to purchase a dual band radio for the station. If you can help, please let us know.

LSU ACES

Aerospace Catalyst Experiences for Students (ACES) project is funded by NASA's National Space Grant College and Fellowship program. The project gives LSU students a true hands-on experience with project management, experiment construction, data collection, analysis and interpretation. BRARC members have provided support on the project by maintaining the tracking system using APRS. Test flights are held at the NASA facility in Palestine, TX and each year several of our members volunteer to chase the balloons.
